At Kumaa Pay, we have spent years building a payments infrastructure trusted by MSBs, licensed crypto companies, and regulated financial entities. Operating in high-risk verticals means holding ourselves and our clients to a higher standard than most. That standard is not negotiable.
Recently, through our own monitoring and review processes, we identified a number of merchants whose transaction activity fell outside the scope permitted under their agreements with us. Consistent with our terms and our standard practice, those relationships were ended and, where risk considerations required it and as is standard practice in the industry, funds were held pending review. Any merchant who believes a decision was made in error has a clear process to raise it.
We are also growing, expanding into lower-risk merchant categories and raising our own bar in the process. Several of the changes below are already live; others roll out through 2026.
Centralised onboarding: All merchants apply directly through Kumaa, with a standardised risk assessment that determines approval status and permitted integration scope from day one.
Risk-tiered integration access: Approvals are structured, not binary. Where certain integration methods carry inherent risk, access is scoped accordingly.
Transaction-level visibility: We are deploying technology that provides granular, real-time visibility into individual transactions across our entire merchant portfolio.
Automated risk parameters: Our monitoring logic is being updated to detect and respond to anomalies faster and with greater precision.
Kumaa Guard: Built over the past eighteen months and now coming to market, Kumaa Guard is our proprietary fraud prevention product, designed to identify fraud and policy violations before they become a compliance event.
Growth brings complexity, and complexity occasionally surfaces problems. What defines a company is how it responds: removing bad actors, strengthening systems, and being straight about the work. That is what we have always done, and what we will continue to do.
